Modified Swann Spycam

Thought I'd try modifying a Swann Spycam I acquired - should be good for moon pics at least.

Output is via a standard RCA plug so I can view on a standard TV/Monitor or input into a video board. Price is around AU$150.

Conversion to telescope use was easy - and done in about 10 minutes: Cut the end from a 35mm film roll cannister, make a suitably sized hole in the cap, remove the supplied lens by unscrewing and expose CCD - insert into cap. This can then be placed into the ETX70 eyepiece holder. The cameras original lens cap can still be used to protect the CCD.

I purchased the PAL version of the camera, the specifications are below:
  • Sensor size: 1/3
  • Sensor type: Colour CMOS image sensor
  • Image Format: Composite
  • Scan Mode: PAL
  • Pixel Number: 628x582 (360k)
  • Auto Electronic Exposure: 1/60~1/2000 sec
  • Sensitivity: 5 Lux @ f1.4 (supplied lens)
  • S/N Ration: 40db
  • Lens View Angles: ±54º (supplied lens)
  • Power Supply: 7v~13v
  • Power Requirements: 200mw
  • Vertical Resolution: 480lines
