4mm
Orthoscopic
Eyepiece

Again, because of availability and price, I went against the Meade 4mm eyepiece and I cannot do a comparison but I can say I was impressed with the performance of this eyepiece. At 88x (176x with 2x barlow) I could clearly make out Saturns rings and Jupiters belts and the views of the moon with the ETX just keep getting better! You do notice, however, the effect of such strong magnification through the ETX70, the relatively smaller aperature not letting enough light through to yield a bright, clear image - even with terrestrial subjects. Meade recommends a maximum practical visual power for the ETX70 at 240x.

Overall a welcome addition to the lens line-up. Approximate price was AU$90.

Right: A view of the moon taken with a cheap digitial camera pointed into the 4mm eyepiece through a 2x barlow. What you can expect with your eye is similar proportions but alot brighter and sharper.
